Ricoh named one of the world’s most sustainable companies for the seventh year in a row

London, 3 February 2011, Ricoh Europe PLC – For the seventh consecutive year, Ricoh, a specialist in office solutions, managed document services and production printing, has been named as one of the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World”. The 2011 Global 100 was unveiled during the annual World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

The recognition highlights not only Ricoh’s commitment to sustainability in its own company practices, but its dedication to improving sustainability for its customers, raising environmental awareness and providing sustainable innovations that deliver energy and cost savings.

Tom Wagland, Environmental Manager, Ricoh Europe said, “We are delighted to once again be recognised as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. Sustainable innovation is at the heart of how Ricoh does business. Environmental governance underpins all aspects of the company, from research and development, product lifecycle management and logistics, to our relationship with suppliers and the way we measure our overall business performance.”

Ricoh combines ecological concerns with best business strategies to drive environmental conservation and profitability simultaneously. Every Ricoh office worldwide holds the international standard ISO14001 for the design and implementation of effective environmental management systems, and all factories have a “zero waste to landfill” policy.

The inclusion of Ricoh as one of the world’s most sustainable companies in the Global 100 list also recognises Ricoh’s aggressive carbon strategy which has seen the company reduce its carbon footprint by 45,000 tonnes since 2007.

The companies selected for the Global 100 were chosen from 3,500 corporations in all business sectors, analysed in detail, compared to their industry peers, and evaluated as the global corporations which have been most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance issues.

Launched in 2005, the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World is an annual project initiated by Corporate Knights. In 2010, Corporate Knights collaborated with three strategic partners to identify the Corporate Knights Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. The Corporate Knights Global 100 team included Inflection Point Capital Management – a sustainability-focused asset management venture founded by Dr. Matthew Kiernan, Legg Mason’s Global Currents Investment Management, and Phoenix Global Advisors LLC (a consulting and technology platform focused on sustainability).
